The Sea Organ

The globe’s people gather to see the glory of the sun leaving the day at the Sea Organ in Zadar, Croatia.  I am enveloped by countless cultures + languages cajoling for a spot on the steps to enjoy the eerie, yet enchanting sounds of organ music. It is a series of 35 pipes of varying size, set at different angles and heights in the concrete steps to catch the waves caused by the wind hitting the coastline in a resounding chorus.

Coastlines.

In my mind, water meeting land instantly images God’s love hitting the craggy rocks, rippling crevices and deep caverns of my life + soul. It is endless in its gentle lapping or fierce crashing, but always present + persistently wise + good. This fixture, designed by Nikola Basic, gives the wind + waves a voice + an instrument, playing a uniquely-noted melody every moment, never repeating itself. It is as singular as a snowflake.

“The rougher the water, the louder the music” explained my tour guide earlier and I am bonded to this place now, praising the wise + caring Creator, for his sovereign seeing to my life in love.  “The LORD reigns, let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlines be glad!” (Psalm 97:1).  How beautiful of a song he is writing for me to sing.  I wouldn’t write the rougher water when the wind bucks up into my story if I had the pen, but I trust that the song of his faithful care is all the sweeter when it my coastline.
